Myths About PTSA Membership

1. Myth: You have to commit a lot of time and/or attend every meeting.

Truth: While some members are very active, you can participate as much or as little as you want. Even small contributions are valuable! Attendance at meetings is encouraged, but not mandatory.

2. Myth: PTAs are only for moms.

Truth: Anyone who supports schools are welcome in PTAs. Membership is open to parents, guardians, educators, grandparents and other community members.

3. Myth: You need special skills or be a certain type of parent to join.

Truth: No special skills or experience are required. A willingness to support your school is all you need! PTAs are inclusive and encourage diverse perspectives. All types of parents and caregivers are welcome!

4. Myth: PTAs only focus on fundraising.

Truth: While fundraising is part of what PTAs do, they also advocate for policies, organize events, and provide resources that enhance education.

5. Myth: PTAs are just for elementary schools.

Truth: PTAs exist at all school levels, including middle and high schools, and they play a critical role in all educational environments.
